Cultural Policy of Prague 22+

We have prepared a key concept document for the development of art, culture and KKO in Prague for the years 2022—2030. KP22+ defines the long-term vision, priorities and goals of the capital in the field of culture. Following the strategy, we also participate each year in the preparation of an action plan with specific projects.

The cultural policy of Prague 22+ serves as a basic starting point, which is reflected in the work of not only elected and unelected representatives of the city. Its implementation relates to a wide plenary of cultural actors in Prague, headed by the City Hall and the organizations established or established by the city.

What does KP22+ include?

The Cultural Policy of the City of Prague has five thematic chapters:

  1. Culture united — Working together goes the furthest
  2. Praha ělá — Without data there are no cakes
  3. Inspiring Prague — As the world calls, so does the world hear
  4. Prague Community — Culture is where people are
  5. Prague Prosperous — Creativity is the future cultural heritage.

At the same time, the document declares five key principles that should be respected by the city and across the cultural community — sustainability, accessibility and openness, piloting and knowledge, innovation, diversity.

How did the strategy come about?

In addition to the final document, the way in which the strategy is created is also key. Therefore, we tried to communicate as much as possible with cultural professionals, representatives of the office, political representation and the wider cultural community. As a result, KP22+ was created broadly participatory in the following steps:

  • three-day conference Prague Cultural Forum in hybrid format with more than 2000 views and international participation
  • Questionnaire survey among 165 respondents from the cultural community
  • a total of 9 meetings of 3 thematic working groups of 8 representatives of the professional public
  • 3 participatory online meetings with a total of 550 views
  • public discussion of the proposal
  • Settlement 180 comments
  • 3 steering committee meeting from elected city representatives across the political spectrum
  • 2 Discussion of the Committee on Culture

The cultural policy was unanimously approved by the ZHMP in April 2022.

What is an action plan?

The action plan is based on cultural policy and elaborates in more detail the agenda for the following calendar year. It names specific projects, specifies the method of financing and determines who is responsible for implementation. We are working on action plans in cooperation with the Department of Culture and municipal cultural organizations. Our long-term ambition is to broaden the spectrum of actors involved in cultural policy implementation and to open up work on action plans to the wider cultural community and the independent sector.
